Straight answers

No marketing fog. Here is exactly what DriverStandard is, what it isn't, and how it handles your data.

Is DriverStandard an official DVSA test?

No. DriverStandard is an independent company and professional driving assessment product. It is not the DVSA practical driving test, not the DVSA theory test, not Driver CPC training, and it does not issue statutory competence certificates. It is a structured way for companies and professional assessors to assess, develop and evidence driving standards — using recognised UK rules and Roadcraft-informed principles, with the professional assessor making every judgement.

Who is it for?

Transport operators who need consistent driver assessment across a fleet; independent driving assessors who want professional records and reports; training providers delivering development between assessments; and individual drivers who want a verifiable record of their competence. An independent assessor is simply an organisation of one — the same platform scales from a single assessor to a multi-site fleet.

What do assessments actually record?

Structured on-road observations across Roadcraft-informed competency areas — information and observation, planning, position, speed, vehicle control, junctions, vulnerable road users, large-vehicle awareness and professional conduct. Each observation is classified fairly (positive, coaching note, driving fault, serious or dangerous fault), timestamped, and can carry the assessor's own wording. Positive driving is recorded too, not just mistakes.

Does the app decide whether a driver is competent?

No — and it is built so it never can. Fault severity is chosen by the assessor. The system highlights patterns (for example, a repeated mirror fault) as a prompt for professional judgement, and demands written justification if a serious fault sits alongside a positive overall result. The final outcome is always the assessor's, recorded and signed.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Assessments are designed for poor signal areas: every observation is saved to the device the moment it is recorded, and synced safely when connectivity returns — without duplicates. Knowledge checks downloaded for formal use keep their integrity offline too.

How is driver data protected?

Data protection is built in rather than bolted on: the minimum personal data is collected; accounts are protected by strong passwords and multi-factor authentication for privileged roles; access is enforced between organisations so one customer can never see another's records; assessment records are append-only once signed; and every action is written to an audit trail. You can export and retain records under your own UK GDPR processes.

Are the knowledge questions copied from the official theory test?

No. All questions are original, written against the authoritative rules — the Highway Code and retained legislation — with the exact source, version and licence recorded for every regulated question. Nothing from official DVSA theory-test banks is reproduced.

What does it cost?

There will be a genuinely useful free tier — enough assessments to experience the whole cycle — with paid plans adding unlimited assessments, company branding on reports, and organisational analytics. Pricing will be published at launch; early adopters on the register-your-interest list will hear first.

When is it available?

The platform is built and in final pre-launch verification. Register your interest on the contact page and you'll be among the first accounts created.
